Hemingway’s command was simple: “In order to write about life, first you must live it.”

There’s something remarkably powerful about a quote that distills a lifetime of wisdom into a single sentence. No book, seminar, or 3-payment installation required.

Obviously, that’s a stretch statement but there’s a daily truth we all need to be reminded of:

We can’t read and write our way to living.

The same applies to absurdity. Although, I might add, it takes way less effort to achieve.

The trap is when you force yourself to formulate it. What you often see is people creating an artificial, mutated, people-pleasing, sanitized version of their absurd self just to stay presentable. That in itself is absurd, but not the kind we’re talking about. To live absurdly is to not even think of it; to live absurdly is just to live.

I guess, in the end, we go back to what Hemingway said.
